T-BIRDS DROP FIRST GAME OF SIX-GAME ROAD TRIP
Rai scores in 2-1 loss to Calgary Hitmen
CALGARYThe Calgary Hitmen defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary.
This was the first game of a six-game road trip. The T-Birds six-game road trip through the Central division continues on Tuesday, October 27, when the team takes on the Red Deer Rebels at 6 p.m. They face the Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday, October 28, at 6 p.m.
 
Calgary took a 1-0 lead at 4:24 of the first period on a goal by Tyler Fiddler. Joel Broda had the only assist on the goal.
 
Calgary (12-3-0-0) outshot Seattle 12-5 in the first period.
 
Seattle (3-9-0-1) tied the game 1-1 at 6:43 of the second period on a power-play goal by Prab Rai. Charles Wells had the puck on the right side in the circle. He crossed the puck to Jonathan Parker on the goal line on the left side of the net. Parker held the puck forcing Calgary goalie Martin Jones to drop to his pads. Then Parker made a cross-crease pass Rai to the left of the goal. Rai quickly snapped the puck at the net and beat a sprawling Jones.
 
The Hitmen outshot the T-Birds 12-4 in the second period and led 24-9 in total shots after two periods.
 
Calgary went in front 2-1 on a power-play goal by Michael Stone at 10:29 of the third period. Brandon Kozun and Matt MacKenzie had assists on the goal.
 
Calgary outshot Seattle 35-12 in the game.
 
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 33 saves on 35 shots and his record is now 3-5-0-1.
 
Jones stopped 11 of 12 shots and his record is now 6-0-0-0.
 
Seattle finishes out the six-game road trip with games against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on October 30, Medicine Hat Tigers on October 31 and the Kootenay Ice on November 1.
 
The T-Birds next home game is Friday, November 6, against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:35 p.m. at ShoWare Center.
 
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2009-10 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
