Team White Wins Second Training Camp Scrimmage

TEAM WHITE WINS SECOND TRAINING CAMP SCRIMMAGE
Parker scores twice to lead Team White to 4-3 victory over Team Blue
KENTJonathan Parker had two goals Wednesday night at ShoWare Center in the second training camp scrimmage to lead Team White to a 4-3 win over Team Blue.
 
Jonathan Parker put Team White up 1-0 on a penalty shot midway through the first period. Parker beat Team Blue goalie Jacob DeSerres with a fake right then brought the puck back and beat the goalie with a backhand shot high over the blocker.
 
Justin LaChance tied the game 1-1 for Team Blue when he scored on a penalty shot a few minutes after Parker’s goal. LaChance came in on Team White goalie Kyle Jahraus and beat under the left arm with a quick wrist shot.
 
Nick Enegren started in net for White in the second period.
 
Parker put Blue up 2-1 early in the second period. Parker fought for a puck through the neutral zone and was able to get by the last Blue defender. He came in alone on Enegren and beat him with a backhand shot over the blocker.
 
White went up 3-1 midway through the second on a goal by Sena Acolatse. Prab Rai carried the puck from left to right behind the White net. He came into the right circle and made a quick cross-crease pass to Acolatse to the left of the goal. Acolatse beat a sprawling Enegren high for the goal.
 
Calvin Pickard replaced Jahraus in net for White halfway through the second period.
 
Charles Wells cut the White lead to one goal when he beat Pickard with a quick wrist shot over the glove from the left circle.
 
Brenden Silvester tied the game 3-3 when he corralled a loose puck to the right of Pickard. Silvester beat Pickard low on the glove side to tie the game.
 
Conor Barrie started in net for Blue in the third period.
 
White went ahead 4-3 in the third period on a goal by Jeremy Schappert. Rai carried the puck down the right side while Schappert cut in from the left point. Rai backhanded the puck to the high slot and Schappert beat Barrie with a one timer from the high slot.
 
The T-Birds will open the 2009-10 Western Hockey League regular season with back-to-back home games against the Everett Silvertips and Portland Winterhawks.
 
The T-Birds will take on the Silvertips on Friday, September 18, at 7:35 p.m. and then host the Winterhawks on Saturday, September 19, at 7:05 p.m. Both games are at ShoWare Center in Kent.
 
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2009-10 season are available online at www.seattlethunderbirds.com and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
The Thunderbirds have a five-game preseason schedule. The only home preseason game of the year will be on Saturday, September 12, against the Everett Silvertips at ShoWare Center at 7:05 p.m. This game is a special fundraiser game for the Kent School District.
 
They will face the Portland Winterhawks at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, at Memorial Coliseum. They will then play three games in the Silvertips Preseason Tournament at Comcast Arena over Labor Day Weekend. They will play the Prince George Cougars on Friday, September 4 at 11:30 a.m. The T-Birds then take on the Silvertips at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 5. They finish out the weekend against the Spokane Chiefs at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 6.
