T-Birds Sign Cody Savey

Forward currently playing with West Van Academy Elite 15s

KENT, February 13, 2017 — Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell this morning announced forward Cody Savey has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the team.

Savey, from Gold River, British Columbia, is playing this season with the West Vancouver Academy Elite 15s in the CSSHL. Savey has 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points with 62 penalty minutes in 26 games. Savey is 6’1 and 209 pounds and is a 2001 birth year.

“Cody came to camp last year as an undrafted player and had a very strong camp,” said Farwell. “He has continued to develop his game and we are very excited about him as a prospect for our team. He has a unique blend of skill and grit in his game and I am confident he will be a fan favorite as he continues to develop as a Thunderbird.”

“It means quite a bit to me to sign with the T-Birds,” said Savey. “It was a really good experience to take part in training camp and play in the Blue White game. It was such a high level of play.”

By signing a WHL Standard Player Agreement Savey is guaranteed a WHL Scholarship for every year he plays in the WHL. A player is able to attend any career enhancing institution of his choice, including universities, colleges, technical institutes, trade schools, or any other institution which will help the player achieve his academic and career goals.

For each season played in the WHL, a player receives a one year post-secondary scholarship, which includes: Tuition, Compulsory Fees and Required Textbooks.

The WHL provides the top young hockey talent in western Canada and the United States with the opportunity to develop their skills on the ice at the highest possible level, without compromising their academic goals. The WHL is committed to recognizing academic excellence.

The T-Birds play the Kelowna Rockets Monday in Kelowna at 2pm. The T-Birds return to ShoWare Center for a Directors Mortgage 2-for-Tuesday game on February 14 against the Red Deer Rebels at 7:05pm.

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2016-17 season are currently on sale. Fans can purchase single game tickets online or at the ShoWare Center box office.
