Silvertips Slip Past T-Birds In Overtime

Cole Schwebius makes 39 saves in first career start in net

EVERETT, October 5, 2018 — The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 in overtime Friday night at Angel of the Winds Arena.

The T-Birds host the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday at accesso ShoWare Center at 6:05pm.

Seattle (2-1-1-0) goalie Cole Schwebius made his first career start in net for the T-Birds. He made 39 saves on 41 shots and gave the T-Birds a chance to win. Schwebius, from Kelowna, British Columbia, was the T-Birds 10th round pick in the 2016 Bantam Draft.

Everett (3-2-0-0) took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal at 10:45 of the third period by Bryce Kindopp. Connor Dewar and Riley Sutter had the assists.

Everett’s Sean Richards was called for a checking to the head major while the Silvertips were on a power play. After 19 seconds of four-on-four play the T-Birds had a power play for 4:41.

Dillon Hamaliuk tied the game 1-1 a second after the five-minute major penalty ended. Hamaliuk came out of the right corner and powered to the net. Hamaliuk beat Everett goalie Dustin Wolf with a shot over the right pad for his fourth goal in as many games. Noah Philp and Jake Lee had the assists.

Dewar won the game 17 seconds into overtime off an assist from Kindopp.

Wolf had 16 saves on 17 shots.
