Seattle Thunderbirds: Congratulations on being selected by the T-Birds. Where were you when you found out the T-Birds drafted you?
Simon Kubicek: I was at the U18 Czech National Team summer camp.
ST: For our fans that have not seen you play, can you describe your style of play? Are there any NHL players you try to model your game after?
SK: I’m offensive and hard defenseman who can read the game. I watch some defensemen for example Brent Burns.
ST: What did you know about the T-Birds and the WHL before being selected by the team?
SK: I watched some WHL games. I know that T-birds won WHL in 2017 and have great fans.
ST: Have any previous teammates or friends played in the WHL or CHL?
SK: I know Filip Kral from Spokane Chiefs and Ondrej Vala from Kamloops Blazers.
ST: What was the experience of playing in the U17 tournament last year like?
SK: It was a huge experience for me. The hockey was fast and hard with great atmosphere.
ST: Current T-Birds defenseman Jake Lee played for Team Canada White at the U17 tournament. Did you play against him?
SK: We played against each other in a group and then in playoff.
ST: What do you think the transition will be like coming to play in Seattle?
SK: It will be another step in my hockey career. I will play in one of the best junior league on the world and I will learn English.
ST: Tell the T-Bird fans one cool fact about yourself.
SK: I study at a fireman school.
ST: Who or what got you into playing hockey?
SK: My father got me into playing hockey because he was hockey goalie.
ST: Is there something you do before every game to prepare yourself?
SK: I don’t do any special things before the game.
ST: Have you ever traveled to the United States before and if so where?
SK: Yes, I was in Philadelphia.
ST: Thanks for your time Simon. We can’t wait to see you at Training Camp!
SK: It was my pleasure to answer these questions and I’m looking forward to coming to Seattle.
