Donovan Neuls To Play For University of Saskatchewan This Season
Neuls won WHL Championship with T-Birds in 2017
KENT, September 12, 2018 — Seattle Thunderbirds Vice President of Hockey Operations Russ Farwell today announced former center Donovan Neuls will be joining the University of Saskatchewan Huskies for the 2018-19 season.
Neuls played 283 games in a T-Birds jersey over four seasons with the team and had 57 goals and 123 assists for 180 points. In 2017-18, his last season with the team, he had 22 goals and 54 assists for 76 points which tied him with Nolan Volcan for the team lead in points.
“Donovan will be a great addition for the Huskies,” said Farwell. “He is the kind of player that every team needs if they are going to be successful because he can play all forward positions, wins one-on-one battles, and provides both offense and solid defense. He improved every year he played for us and we look forward to watching his career at the University level.”
Neuls, from Grenfell, Saskatchewan, was a member of the T-Birds 2017 WHL Championship team. He had eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 20 playoff games to help lead the T-Birds to the Memorial Cup. Neuls was originally selected by the T-Birds in the eighth round, 157th overall, in the 2012 Bantam Draft.
Neuls finished up his WHL eligibility this past season and will now take advantage of the WHL Scholarship Program. For each year that Neuls played in the WHL, he will receive a year of college tuition and books at the University of Saskatchewan.
For each season played in the WHL, a player is awarded with a one-year post-secondary scholarship, which includes tuition, compulsory fees, and required textbooks. A player is able to attend any career enhancing institution of his choice, including universities, colleges, technical institutes, trade schools, or any other institution which will help the player achieve his academic and career goals.
The WHL is the leading supplier of scholarships in Western Canada and offers the most comprehensive scholarship in North America.
The WHL provides the top young talent in the west with the opportunity to develop their skills on the ice at the highest possible level, without compromising their academic goals. The WHL is committed to recognizing academic excellence.
